Your Thyroid Gland Is Important
The thyroid, a butterfly-shaped gland located in your neck just above the collarbone, is critically important for the proper control and maintenance of your body’s overall metabolic rate. When functioning optimally, this gland helps to regulate many body functions by constantly releasing a small but steady stream of hormones into the bloodstream.
Conditions of the Thyroid
There are a number of conditions that can manifest when the thyroid gland is not functioning smoothly. If any of these conditions occur, your overall metabolic system will be adversely impacted and you may not feel like your best self. You may often feel restless or tired, or you may lose or gain weight.
Thyroid-related conditions can include the following:
- Kidney Problems
- Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes
- Hyperthyroidism
- Hypothyroidism
- Testosterone Imbalance
- Obesity
- Graves’ Disease
- Cancer
- Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis
- Osteoporosis, and others
Women are more likely than men to have thyroid problems. These conditions may particularly occur after pregnancy and after menopause.
