The Endocrinological Conditions We Treated

MOST CONCERNS

Thyroid Conditions

The thyroid conditions listed below are of significant concern for health.

Hyperthyroidism
Hyperthyroidism is a condition where the thyroid gland produces excessive thyroid hormones, leading to symptoms such as rapid heartbeat, weight loss, and anxiety. It can be caused by Graves' disease, thyroid nodules, or inflammation of the thyroid gland.
Hypothyroidism
Hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland is underactive and doesn't produce enough thyroid hormones. This can lead to symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, and depression. Common causes include Hashimoto's thyroiditis and iodine deficiency.
Thyroid Nodules
Thyroid nodules are lumps that form within the thyroid gland. While most nodules are benign and do not cause symptoms, some can be cancerous or cause hyperthyroidism, requiring further evaluation and possible treatment.
Thyroid Cancer
Thyroid cancer occurs when malignant cells form in the tissues of the thyroid gland. Symptoms can include a lump in the neck, changes in voice, and difficulty swallowing. Treatment often involves surgery, radiation, and sometimes chemotherapy.
Hashimoto's Thyroiditis
Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks the thyroid gland, leading to chronic inflammation and often resulting in hypothyroidism. Symptoms may include fatigue, weight gain, and sensitivity to cold.

Calcium and Parathyroid Conditions

Hypercalcemia
Hypercalcemia is a condition characterized by abnormally high levels of calcium in the blood. It can cause various symptoms such as fatigue, confusion, and bone pain, and may result from overactive parathyroid glands or other underlying health issues.
Hyperparathyroidism
Hyperparathyroidism occurs when one or more of the parathyroid glands become overactive, leading to excessive production of parathyroid hormone (PTH). This results in high levels of calcium in the blood, which can cause osteoporosis, kidney stones, and other health problems.

I was a private pilot for 34 years before contracting Type 1 diabetes after a severe case of food poisoning in March of 2008. My first endocrinologist refused to assist me in working with the FAA to retain my pilot’s license. I became a patient of Dr. Troya in 2010. Since that time, he has put me on a Continuous Glucose Monitoring regime and helped me stabilize my blood glucose levels to levels that allow me to pass my FAA medical exam. His caring and interest in each patient's personal issues, as well as their medical outcomes, marks him as an outstanding physician.
